How do you navigate your way to a bonus in MIPS?

Most dermatologists who participate in Medicare are subject to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), which provides bonuses and penalties for “quality” performance. Many physicians merely aim to avoid penalties in the system, but dermatologists should realize that they can easily perform and report measures they are already doing or can very readily implement.

At the session “MACRA, MIPS, and Advanced APMs” (U020), attendees will learn how to best use MIPS to not only avoid penalties but earn bonuses.

“We have data showing members who reported MIPs through the AAD’s DataDerm registry did very well last year,” said session presenter Marta J. Van Beek, MD, MPH, chief of staff at the University of Iowa Clinics and Hospitals. “If you can, it is important to report through DataDerm’s registry. The data collected will be used to advocate for the specialty to policymakers and to the house of medicine.”

During the session, the benefits and requirements of being in an advanced alternative payment model (APM) will also be discussed. Presenters will highlight other provisions of MACRA (the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015) that directly affect your practice, as well as the AADA’s response to MACRA. Can’t wait? The session will be held from 7:30-8:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, in Regency Ballroom B.
