Fox Award: The future of dermatology recognized

Winners of this year’s prestigious Everett C. Fox Memorial Award presented the most outstanding papers in clinical and laboratory research March 6, during the Resident and Fellows symposium. The top papers were chosen by faculty judges led by Robert Dellavalle, MD, PhD.

Clinical Based

  • First place: David W. Martell, MD, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, for “Oral Isotretinoin: 29 Years of Medical Malpractice Cases in the United States.”
  • Second place: Noora Neittaanmäki-Perttu, MD, PhD, Skin and Allergy Hospital (Finland), for “Hyperspectral Imaging in Differentiating In Situ Lentigo Maligna and Invasive Lentigo Maligna Melanoma.”
  • Third place: Daria Marley Kemp, MD, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, department of dermatology and cutaneous biology, for “Long-Term Prospective Study Evaluating Effectiveness of Narrow Margins for Low-Risk Head and Neck Basal Cell Carcinomas.”

  • First place: Andrea Suārez, MD, PhD, Weill Cornell Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital, for “SOX10 Gene Networks in Zebrafish Melanocyte Development, Regeneration, and Invasive Melanoma.”
  • Second place: Monica M. Van Acker, DO, St. Joseph Mercy, department of dermatology, for “Transcriptional Analysis Confirms Dysregulation of the Th17 Pathway in Alopecia Areata.”
  • Third place: Shany Sherman, MD, Rabin Medical Center (Israel), for “Fibrinogen-Like Protein 2 Activity as a Potential Biomarker for Diagnosis of Early Mycosis Fungoides”
