Welcome to the Mile High meeting

Colorado Convention Center

The beautiful Colorado Convention Center, with its imposing Blue Bear peering in the windows, is the site of the AAD 2014 Annual Meeting.

The Academy is taking the Annual Meeting to new heights — literally — today through Tuesday. This is the Academy’s first time in Colorado, the only state to lie entirely above 3,281 feet. Denver’s nickname, The Mile High City, is no exaggeration! Parts of Denver are 5,280 feet above sea level, or exactly 1 mile high.

Join the AAD as it tackles new scientific and geographic heights with an exciting array of scientific sessions and events that will deliver the exceptional meeting experience you’ve come to know and expect.

The Sunday Plenary session, from 8 a.m. to noon in the Bellco Theatre, will feature expert lecturers presenting on a variety of prominent research topics and sociopolitical issues facing the specialty. See page 3 for a detailed article about the Plenary presentations.

Expanded dermatology research symposium

Because of the popularity of the Latest in Dermatology Research Symposium (formerly Late-Breaking Research), the session has been expanded to allow for even more cutting-edge research to be presented. The symposium will be presented in two parts on Saturday. Part 1 will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and Part 2 will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. in Room 107/109/111/113.

AAD goes green

In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, the Academy is offering the majority of meeting materials electronically via the mobile app or AAD website, www.aad.org/AM14. Session evaluations and CME credit claims can be completed online at www.aad.org/evals. Meeting materials, including pocket guides, and a limited number of CME booklets, can be picked up at the Meeting Information bins throughout the convention center. In addition, the traditional canvas registration bags have been replaced by recyclable lightweight bags, which are available to attendees on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you did not opt to view the Onsite Program electronically during online registration, you should have received a voucher that can be redeemed for a paper copy of the program at Registration in Hall F.

What better place to go green than Denver! The Colorado Convention Center was the first conference center in the world to be certified to a new international sustainability standard to promote responsible environmental and social practices in the event industry. The convention center even has a 5,000-square-foot urban garden, Blue Bear Farms, which yields farm-fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
