Managing Tough Real Life Dermatology Cases (S039)
Sunday, March 5
A Sunday, March 5, symposium, “Managing Tough Real Life Dermatology Cases,” will feature a panel of experts presenting real-life challenges in patient management and discussing how they would approach each situation.
Eleven panelists will present some of their most challenging cases involving medical, surgical, and pediatric dermatology patients. Audience participation is encouraged, and the focus will be on discussion rather than lengthy speaker presentations. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and offer their views during the interactive session.
“There will be something for everyone,” said Dirk Elston, MD, the session director. “We will try to keep it moving, with a rapid-fire approach and a lot of discussion of real practice conundrums. These are actual cases. We will see the scenario and the challenge, and there will be an audience response system so each participant can benchmark their choices against their peers.”
In many of the cases, the challenge is not in the diagnosis, but in the treatment, he said.
“These are the problems we face every day in practice, the ones where you really wish you had someone by your side to ask, ‘What would you do with this?’” said Dr. Elston, chair of the department of dermatology at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. “This is an opportunity to do this with a panel of experts right there discussing how they would approach it.
“Every one of these cases is one you will take back to your practice to improve the care of your patients.”
