The Guest Speaker at the Annual Meeting Plenary session on Sunday, March 5, will be RADM Jordan W. Tappero, MD, MPH, who will present “The West African Ebola Epidemic and the Global Health Security Agenda.”
Dr. Tappero is director of the Division of Global Health Protection, Center for Global Health (CGH), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He provides strategic scientific and programmatic contributions to the Office of the Director’s (CGH/OD) management and oversees an annual budget of more than $3 billion. He also leads and executes CGH/OD’s efforts to institutionalize the Global Health Security Agenda at the CDC.
He brings 24 years of extensive global experience to this key leadership position, including 11 years residing overseas. He has served as epidemiology section chief for CDC’s Meningitis and Special Pathogens Branch, focusing on the prevention of meningococcal disease and other forms of bacterial meningitis, zoonotic bacterial infections, and bioterrorism preparedness against anthrax and brucellosis.
